RILEM TUBES
For measuring the rate at which water moves
through porous materials such as masonry |

|
Rilem Tubes (used in the
Rilem Test Method) provide a simple
method for measuring the volume of water absorbed by a masonry
material within a specified time period. The test can be performed
at the site or in the laboratory and can be used to measure vertical
or horizontal water transport. Water permeability measurements
can be used to assess the degree of weathering that the material
has undergone. This testing can also determine the degree of protection
afforded by a water repellent treatment.

Vertical Rilem Tubes — Concrete Block
Used to measure absorption of a vertical surface.
The block version with the shorter vertical tube is available for measuring
absorption in concrete block. It has a raised ridge on the underside to prevent putty
from filling in the opening.

| Rilem Putty |
|
Rilem Putty is used to attach the Rilem Tube to the surface being tested.
Each unit of Rilem Putty contains 1/2 pound of putty. Approximately six
rilem tubes can be attached with 1/2 pound of putty. |
